Feature: remembering position on pause as well as on close

I like to keep vlcplayer open so when I have time to continue playback but sometimes get lost in other work, crashes happen or electricity issues etc but vlc only saves when you close the program manually

Can you make it save position on pause as well? Or add the option to have it like that if in some case it affects anyone else who wants it on exit only

How do you make it save at all please? I can't even get it to save on exit whether playing or paused. I think this is because my "Playlist" is lost. My playlist is still in the Media section but even though I copy that to the Playlist section it vanishes after closing VLC so cannot possibly continue. Anybody know how to keep a playlist when closing VLC please?
