Shuffle multiple playlist equaly

Postby nettspawn » 23 Feb 2022 09:07

Hi !

Here is my use case :

We are 5 in the house, me and my four children. We are both musically different but we like to mix our best playlist when we take time all together.
Actually, I manage it manually but it's a mess. 2 solutions are to alternate files in a folder and have a playlist based on.
But it's always the same sorting and when we try a shuffle, it's no more equal... We can listen half an hour of one people sometimes...
And I don't explain about the not equal number of music in playlist.

So I would like to dream about a feature that allow me to select multiple playlists (or folders) and that I can ask to play it randomly but equally.
The mix will pick one by one in shuffle but alternatively in each playlist.

And I'm sure that I'm not the only one that will love it <3

Thank you for your work !

Julien.

Hi, this is a very specific scenario, I'm afraid you can't do that out of the box. One way to do this would be to write a lua script for VLC, but this requires some programming skills

Hi Chubinou,

Thanks for your answer and... I was quite sure that it's not available out of the box.
And this is the reason I post this in "Feature Requests"...

Hopping that some good people with dev skills would like to push it in a future release.

Am I wrong ? Is it not the good way to do it ?

Julien.

Because this task is turning endless in my mind, let met details how I imagine it could works :

A new type of playlist that we can call "Mother Playlist".
This one contained a list of existing playlists
You can set play options :
- Normal sort
- Sequential playlist but shuffle in playlist
- Equally sequential playlist normal sort
- Equally sequential playlist shuffle
- Equally shuffle playlist shuffle
- All shuffle

When we start the very first time, VLC will compose the big playlist depending on the option selected.
Then the user can see the list created.
VLC keep the list until it's ask by the user and the status of the previous play
When you restart play this Mother Playlist, VLC ask if the user want to restart previous play or rebuild the playlist

voilà.

I feel better now I write it ^^

Thanks for reading ;)

Julien.

Note : Reading this, it could be only simply a playlist generator... :)

You can add shuffling in Mix playlists https://addons.videolan.org/p/1167844/
Sampler (PG) can shuffle items https://addons.videolan.org/p/1154039/

Hello mederi,

Thank you for your links.

Anyway, it's not a problem of making shuffling playlist by myself using tools.
I can manage this kind of thing with little loop in bash.
It's about have this feature in the VLC software and not depending of the OS linked.

Writing on "Feature Request" was not meaningless, it's a real request.
Maybe I can open another topic because it seems more clear that it could be a playlist generator ^^

It could be a playlist agregator, but VLC can't stand random playlist shuffle history (asked many times in this forum) and it seems easier to ask for a playlist generator instead of a playing status feature ;)

Have a nice day,

Julien.
