Alter FFWD and RW functionality

This is probably not something that would matter to people that use VLC on a computer or phone/tablet, but on something like a Shield device, the only way to navigate through a video is the 10 second skip forward/backward, manually enter a time to go to, or move up to the time bar and move it. The problem with this is that the time bar navigation is very coarse and is a very large jump. I think it would work better if it worked like Kodi. If you push the >> button 1 time it jumps 10 seconds, if you push it twice in something like 0.7 seconds, then it jumps 30 seconds, if you push it three times with each push separated by 0.7 seconds or less, then it is a minute jump, then 5 minute, then 10, then 30, etc. But if you push it 2x and there is more than 0.7 seconds between the pushes then it would be 2 10 seconds jumps.
