File Ratings Support?

Postby muzicman82 » 12 Jan 2010 09:50

Is there any support available to enable file ratings in VLC Media Player? For example, I'm hoping that I can give something a 3/5 star rating, and it show up this way in Windows Explorer, when I enable the Rating column in Detailed View.

Any takers?

Not in current releases. It is easier to implement in upcoming VLC 1.1.0

Another vote for rating support. Preferably allowing users to give play frequency weighting to tracks. Apart from that VLC is the total business. :)

No doubts about VLC excellence, but this detail is missing.

Any status updates on this? Can't fathom switching to WMP and as far as I can tell WMP is the only program that can rate video files...

Bumping.

VLC needs to be able to add ratings to audio files.

There are tons of good tag editors out there, but if listening to a huge library in VLC and feel the need to quickly rate a music you're in trouble...
You'll need to find each file in it's folder to tag it.
I saw elsewhere that this is a problem already raised since 2007 and it's still not implemented.

Is there any reason ?

That empty Rate tab is also odd...

Meanwhile, back to MMonkey.

Bumping this again...

I'd still like to see the ability to rate audio AND video files while playing.

Maybe it would be possible to write an addon for this.
As the task is rather simple, it shouldn't be too complicated - Users with experience in VLC-Addons step forward - otherwise I'll look into that, when I finde some spare time.

Because noone felt it was important enough to implement it?

And because it requires a lot of code for this, tbh.

I made an extension to rate playlist entries. The ratings show up in the playlist where you can sort by the "Ratings" column. The extension also attempts to write to the file's metadata using VLC's Lua interface, but these functions may or may not be implemented in VLC for certain file types/systems. Consequently, the extension also saves the rating information to a tab-delimited data file in the VLC user data directory.

There's also a new shuffle function to shuffle by the ratings field, from highest to lowest rated (all items rated 5 are shuffled and grouped together, then all items rated 4, then 3 and so on).

Check it out and let me know what you think!
