VLC 1.0 bugs and feature requests =)

Bugs:

1) In 'wall' mode, only the first two windows are color. The rest are tinted blue or green.

2) 'direct-X wallpaper' only works on primary monitor, and program must also be launched from primary to get any picture even on the primary.

3) The volume and equalizer ranges exceed digital maximum, causing clipping.

4) The 'crop video' functions do not function when 'clone' or 'wall' mode is used.

5) All the 'spatializer' does is distort the sound, and make it sound like a tin can.

Feature Requests:

1) A variable high-pass filter - so can remove subsonic bass from small speakers so they don't distort =)

2) A simple shelving 3 band equalizer (bass, mid, trebble) that displays in the popup full screen thing as well as the main program window. By shelving I mean something that with the bass control for example reaches all the way down - NOT just boosts around 50Hz or something. This is OK, because the user could enable the 'subsonic filter' in feature request #1 to keep things from distorting according to the size of their speakers =) For example, I use computer speakers, but I also have a large stereo system that can play down to 17Hz, loud. It would also be nice if the user could (within the 'customization' settings) select the frequency and 'slope' of these 3 bands =) This equalizer should ALWAYS be available - in full screen mode or otherwise (3 little sliders - nothing complicated).

3) An 'auto-equalization' function would be nice - something where the user could set a 'spectrum balance' that they like, and if the material being played exceeds the parameters (such as too much harsh high frequencies) for a certain period, it 'levels' them down. It would work like a 'leveler', but to change the frequency volumes instead of just the overal volume =)

4) Persistent 'post processing' and 'aspect ratio' settings. Now they do not hold their settings and reset themselves with every new video =(

5) A tabbed interface would be much more useful - insted of having 'popups', have tabs at the top of the program (and drop-down when in full screen mode) that navigate through 'pages' for setting various things =) Even better would be if the user were given the ability to select which items appear on tabs! =D "I want Equalizer on this tab, color properties on that tab" etc...

This a VERY old thread, but I' d like to reinforce the request for a basic treble & bass EQ (aka "Baxandall").

In answer to Jean-Baptiste's reply "why not use the current equalizer?", the answer is that much of the time we don't need the complexity of multi-band EQ! Peter Baxandall's old design (from the early 50's) has been proven "musical" for decades and still works just fine where a little subtle but broad lift or cut is all that's needed, for instance to correct a slight deficiency (or over-aggressiveness) when listening over headphones.

As I recall, his design was centred at 1kHz and affected only the extreme ends of the spectrum at first, but increasingly "slid" the lift or cut towards the centre frequencies as the EQ was increased. Simple, musical and effective.
