Hello there! Today I ran into a very big problem. I cannot play some .mkv files. I think those are 10-bit h.264 720p. My computer has a single-core Sempron 3000+ processor, a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 video card, and 1.5 GB of RAM. I know this is a bit low for these days, but I can't do anything about it.
The format is too hard for my PC to decode, so it freezes. I have tried playing them in MPC-HC + CoreAVC, and they work flawlessly. Let's get to the point: it would be a (very) nice feature if VLC could decode video the same as MPC-HC + CoreAVC, I mean so efficiently. I know that my computer can decode this kind of format if the decoder is very efficent.
I would use MPC-HC + CoreAVC, but they have big problems in displaying subtitles (especially .ass files). I have tried to fix it, but no luck. Anyway, I think it would be a cool feature. I know that this needs a whole new source code for VLC, so this won't be easy. I don't expect that it would be implemented straight away, but the suggestion is there, and you can think about it, and maybe someday, a PC like mine could decode that kind of file under VLC.
PS: i have seen that announcement regarding posting names of other decoding software. I am not sure if this is the case, so if I have broken the rules, please modify this. I have just wanted to give an example.
