So it's been two years since last post and VLC still does not have the remember feature. Is it ever going to happen?

Unfortunately, for the new version of the player - VLC - 2.1.0, this plugin (http://code.google.com/p/vlc-srpos-plugin/) does not work . VLC crashes while trying to exit.

I wrote a letter to Artem Senichev - if he has the time, let him release a new version of this great plugin. I really hope.

Yes, I can confirm, this doesn't work in v2.1.0
This is just disaster...
Long long years passed but such famous free video player doesn't one of the most important feature.

Do you have some answer from him now?

Is that hard for developers to add a couple of small dll's ? Do not believe it!

It must be harder to do than that or one would think it would have been done already. I know it's a pretty important feature for me cause a lot of times I don't watch a movie all the way through (watch all my movies from hard drive) and it's really nice to be able to go back and watch it from where you left off just like any home DVD player would do.

Hey, author updated plugin! He wrote me a few days ago that they don't have much time to improve plugin to the new VLC build, I checked today and they did it perfectly!
Big thanks goes to the author of this brilliant and usefuliest plugin!

Thanks for posting that. The plugin works perfectly in 2.1.0. Works in all videos I've tried so far. Very damn nice.

Awesome, this worked great for me with the latest version of VLC http://vlcsrposplugin.sourceforge.net/

Useful tip... never update VLC again. It'll probably make the plugin stop working, and I can't see the maintainers giving a --please stay polite-- about it enough to ever add this essential feature.

Oh well, thank you again to this thread of abused and broken souls. With such tiny odds of success, you've found and shared a solution that works great!

For what it's worth, that plugin doesn't have a Mac version, so those of us on the Mac who are yearning for this feature are still yearning away... probably forever, I guess!

I have mad respect for the VLC team that works their butts off to bring us this terrific software, for free, so I'm not gonna be rude about it. It's just a shame that's all. Clearly there's some sort of stubbornness at work here, since I can't imagine it's a technical challenge.

All the other media players I use on a regular basis (MplayerX on Mac, MXPlayer on Android, apple video player on iOS) have this behavior by default, so for me it's strange that VLC doesn't even offer the option. I wonder why the VLC developers seem to feel (as I assume they must) that it's a "bad" feature. I suppose they have their reasons! (Obviously it could have been an opt-in setting, for those who desired it.) Oh well!

Does this plug in still work with the latest 2.1.1?

Which OS? How did you install it?

I'm using VLC 2.0.9 and Ubuntu 12.04. I just tried installing srpos and the make step fails.

There's a bug report here:
http://sourceforge.net/p/vlcsrposplugin/tickets/1/
"Unsuccess make with VLC 2.0,8"

My install log showing the error is here: http://pastebin.com/KRmwQNSe

Do you think updating VLC to 2.1.2 would help me?

This works great! THANK YOU! This should have been a feature since VLC version 0.0 alpha

If there is anyone who has the srpos plugin working on Ubuntu 12.04, could you upload your actual plugin file(s) so that I could download and install on my computer? Also, mention the VLC version you are using with the plugin (and where you got the VLC such as Ubuntu repos, VLC download page, etc.). Thank you!

I would be ready to pay some $5 to BUY VLC for MAC OS X if it has a complete, grown-up feature set such as remember last playing position AND file, comprehensible playlist behavior etc.

While i was on Windows, I relied heavily on GOM Player for Windows and I liked it beyond measure. GOM for MAC is a joke, sadly.

VLC for MAC also behaves like a freshman coder's overnight app, which is strange given that VLC for Windows is really powerful.

I have managed to make the vlcsrposplugin build on Mac OS X, but does anyone have any idea how to produce a .dylib file instead of an .la and make VLC recognize it?

What's going on with this? It was supposed to be added in VLC 2.2, the bug has been closed:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/5315#no1

...but it doesn't work at all for me, using 2.2.0-rc1 on Mac. Can't find any options to enable it, etc.

I can't get any of the other plugins to work on Mac either. Amazing that VLC still doesn't have this most basic function!!

I can't get srpos plugin works in windows xp.
I tried with all versions from 2.0.5 to 2.1.2 and doesn't work.
Reset preferences and delete cache.
When I mark the srpos option, vlc opens but videos don't start , and remains an vlc.exe instance that I have to close with the processes-admin.
When uncheck the srpos option , then vlc works again.
I do not know anything else.
Please can anyone help me?

Srpos plugin does not work in Windows XP!
The feature is already implemented in VLC-2.2: http://nightlies.videolan.org/
It can remember recently played items and their playback positions after the 5-th minute of playback time.

I tried the last version 2.2.0-rc2 and vlc-3.0.0-git and don't remember any position in windows xp. I think you mean to go to playback / custom boomarks and add new list every time, which is very uncomfortable.

The only bad solution I've found is this Resume media v3 (lua file) . But every time we have to go to view menu and activate this lua, this is useless.

I just want resume youtube videos after a few minutes in pause. With this lua the position is saved ok by stopping the video, but every time when you open new video you have to go view menu/ lua file and activated.
If anyone is interested I use the firefox plugin "vlc youtube shortcut"
