There are many tools for that job, for example one AVIsynth filter

I am still not convinced there is any perceivable difference between the 30fps and the 60fps stream, although the human eye is reported meant to be able to detect up to ~60fps (15+fps is where things appear to be fluid). The best way to compare the two would be to ABX them (an audio listening test technique) where by there is an A and a B sample, and X, a randomly selected sample, is played back. The listener(/viewer) then identifies the X as either A or B. The trouble with knowing that one is a 60fps one is that you automatically convince yourself that it looks "smoother" than the other.

Arite.
I suggest you watch a 60fps sequence and you will see the difference easily. (I mean a sequence captured at 60 fps and displayed at 60fps)
especillay if the scenes exhibits a lof of movement from the camera like pan.
I made test with friends that didn't know anything about the video being displayed, asking them their feeling about it. the reactions were the same, the movements looks natural and smooth.
You can also see the trouble of classical 24p movie on any scene with rapid movement or with a rapid pan camera, you can notice judder, ironically this is partly that which gives the "cinema looks' to movies.

a good reading about the advantages of high frame rate is a research paper made by some BBC engineers (only 11 pages)

http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rd/pubs/whp/ ... WHP169.pdf

so, I do thing that this request make sense.

and more in the scope of this feature request, an interessting article about frame interpolation

This is getting old and annoying...

I already requested this feature in another thread, i even explained how to achieve it...

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=46914&p=270417&hili ... th#p270417

Then i asked if a script system could be implemented, if the above was not going to be added...

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=82386

And now we are back at the same question in a thread with a different name...

Hello, I just registered only for this request.
I've been looking for VLC to implent this feature for years, but still nothing.

Corel's WinDVD makes it perfectly with Digital Natural Motion from Philips' TrimensionDNM method, even better than PowerDVD's TrueTheater Motion method.

There are so many threads about this request and the only statement they got from VLC is "there is allready a thread about this request" ok fine, so there are many people who want this feature badly.
So why do you ignore it? A fast 480p scene looks better with motion interpolation than a fast 720p scene without motion interpolation.
It's such a huge difference, I don't understand why this keeps getting ignored.

Maybe VLC can add an "avisynth" plugin since avisynth has a Linux port now (AvxSynth) ... then it could use the avisynth plugins for it, I suppose. Or perhaps a modification to ffmpeg's libavfilter to allow it to insert avxsynth plugins would work hmm...

SVP Smooth Video Project will do the trick. It makes video look like 120hz on 60hz monitor.

SVP makes for example 24fps video looks like 60fps video on 60hz monitor. It even auto-detects you refresh rate to choose appropriate fps.

SVP does pretty good job. The problem is that it works with ffdshow and obviously we would like to get the same effect in our favorite player: VLC :!: Please :) :!:

I'd be willing to chip in with a $200 bounty for VLC to support an avisynth "pass through filter" (then you could use that like ffdshow does,to insert the mt tools frame filter). Anybody else willing to help out money-wise?

I'll chip in a bit as well, we could run a Kickstarter though.

I'm not sure if you guys know what I am talking about. Go to your local Best Buy or Circuit City and ask to see their 120hz televisions.

Hi
I am using VLC for years (as most other people I know). Recently I started watching DVDs on a project and now Ireally want to second this feature! It sounds trivial to implement for normal PAL-resolutions and doable for 1080p with GPU-Shader stuff. Requesting 120FPS is of course useless, but most LCD do 60FPS and my projector does 75. This makes a tremendous difference especiallay with reducing DLP-Rainbow artifacts. I just can't believe you can't see the difference between the 30 and the 60FPS example posted above! This is so obvious. Show both to your grandma and she would see it. Try it with realtime generate images (e.g. Computer-Games). If you can't see the difference, well: Then you are lucky. From doing some user-tests at work, I can tell you that most people can instantly spot the difference. Although some they can't name it, literally everybody prefers higher FPS.

Please, I beg you. Implement it as an experimental filter plug-in. I mean you have features like a "Puzzle Game"...
What user pixtur says above makes perfect sense. Especially when doubling 30 fps to 60 fps. My TV does it. Panning and sidescrolling text is greatly improved.
