Watch TV and still Surf

I run an HDMI cable from my computer (Windows 7) to my LCD TV to watch my movies on. But when I have the show running, I can't surf the rest of the internet without taking the movie off my tv, instead it will show the webpage I'm surfing.

Is there a way that I can keep the movie showing on the TV while still surfing the rest of the internet on my laptop?

right click your desktop then go to screen resolution. then use the drop down menu and choose extend these displays, then drag vlc to the right or left to the next display that is extended to your tv. you can drag the displays to any position also before you click apply. ie up down left right. you can also afterwards drag the toolbar to any position or either display. you can also use windows mobility center to connect another display.
