Timeseek bar in fullscreen

Postby Seanaphy » 02 Aug 2011 01:11

Hi Guys,

I've been using VLC for a year or so now....great player!

I'm using a 22" wide monitor. When I "maximize" VLC it's width is 100% across, which is perfect. Is there any chance of having the timeseek bar stretching to the full width of the screen it's on in Fullscreen? It's hard to jump back a few seconds when watching tutorials, etc.

(fingers crossed)

The only problem with that ticket, is that ticket is almost 2 years old. That ridiculously short seek bar in fullscreen is the only thing that's held me off of making VLC my primary player for over 4 years.

I mean, if you search, there are variations of this request going back to 2007, maybe longer. Hell, it's practically one of the most requested additions in VLC's history.

Why is this not being given any sort of priority?

Because this is a volunteer project. Everybody is free to do what they want.

So, looking at the ticket, it was updated 4 weeks ago with a patch to allow near fullscreen width seek bar, what work needs to go into getting it integrated into the main build? Is there any, or is there a volunteer that focuses on things like that?

Or should I download the source code, integrate the patch and compile my own version? If it's going to be integrated into the main branch, I'd rather wait for the next build to come out.

If you use VLC on Windows, you can get this feature on VLC nightly builds.

don't get me wrong, i don't mean to offend you, but i've read this response on several requests now and i'm wondering: what's the purpose of the feature request forum?
i mean, there are requests which are ridiculous for a volunteer project, but on the other hand there are some legit (in my eyes) requests which occur again and again (over years) and which would most certainly make the vlc player way better then he already is (thinking about a wider seek bar in fullscreen mode or a feature to remember the last position to resume video playback when restarting vlc)

jm2c.

EDIT: just came across this. different words, same message.

To suggest features. Noone will say anything against that.

However...

YES, as you as someone asks: "When will you do that?", "Why haven't you done that?" "This is so important for my use-case" "3 yeard already, and nothing is done", he will get the answer that this is a volunteer project.

tl;dr version: suggesting a feature is fine. Demanding, requiring a feature or a time-frame is not OK. Insulting developers because they have not developped what you want is NOT OK at ALL.

Thank you for your response Jean-Baptiste. I fully acknowledge, that insulting the developers is not okay - especially since the vlc player is a great piece of software and on top of that for FREE. I also understand your point about demanding features. But on the other hand you have to admit, that there are many users who are waiting for certain essential features like a wider seekbar or a possibility to add bookmarks for years now.

(Btw, the new version 2.0 for Mac OSX is awesome! Better audio/video controlls and an awesome new skin - finally the basic controlls and the video window are one!)

The wider seekbar is already done...

Bookmarks are addable but are now saved. We gladly wait for patches for this.

Unfortunately not in version 2.0.0-rc1 for Mac OSX...
