Requests for VLC Media Player

Postby Asim » 07 Jul 2005 15:57

Hey folks,

i've got some requests for VLC:

* force change of aspect ratio (e.g. 16:9 to 4:3 or something)

* allow hue/saturation/brightness/video appearance changes from within the VLC program itself (no going into menus etc)

* Allow auto-detection of DVD drives?

I'd be just as happy if they would allow one or more user-set default video settings for these, as I have to reset everything to the same settings every time I open a file. Actually, I have to do this with 8.1 as every time I have uninstalled 8.1 and installed 8.2, 8.2 crashes every time I try to enable the sliders... FWIW I use Me, all I can afford. 8.1 is a heck of a good player, hope they get 8.2 fixed so I can use the new image snapping ability.

Ok but for divx or bad encoded files, there is no way to change the aspect ratio. It's borring.

You can change aspect ratio in the preferences.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

And "hue/saturation/brightness" can be changed in the "Advanced GUI" / "Extended Controls" now (on OSX included within the next release).

I still would like a quick-option for this to change the ratio on the fly, without having to restart the movie.

By the way, how come VLC always uses the ratio setting in preferences? It seems to never figure out the ratio from the file...

If you enter a value in the prefs, it will be used always regardless of the actual aspect ratio of the file. Empty the field and save your prefs, if you want VLC to check for the ratio automatically.

Implementing a working on-the-fly solution for this issue is on the todo-list, but please don't expect that to be done soon. Work will start on that after the next release, which we hope to ship in early october.
