but we are at 1.1.11, so maybe after 89 more releases?
VLC releases don't follow that scheme =)
i figured as much :)

and fwiw, i uploaded another crash file, just on the outside chance that it might be from a different cause - if this third one is the same libavcodec problem that you found in the first two, i would be highly confident that ALL of them (occurring now closer to 10x every day) are the same

and since this commercial stream is offered by cnbc 16 hours/day M-F, this problem may well be effecting many other people who use VLC (either currently, or in the future) to play the stream

the crash file is ~17MB and occurs at 9:54 (out of 10:48), if by chance you have any time/interest in further confirmatory diagnostics:

thanks much again!

thanks VLC - i don't know why it is happening more frequently over the last week or so, but it is now up to 2-3 times an hour (which means 20-30 crashes and restarts every day) - it is pretty much getting unusable - HELP!

fwiw, here is another one - it is ~6MB and the crash is at 38 secs (out of ~4mins) :

thanks again!

and since it is happening so often, i have yet another crash file with a small file size, if you feel like checking one more (and i won't link anymore after this, if they are all the same error)

it is ~9MB and the crash is at 4:36 secs :

Same issue with a_fifth_example_of_VLC_crash_at_4.36.wmv, so I assume it is only one issue
(gdb) bt
#0 0x5eda1b17 in ff_mspel_motion ()
from /cygdrive/c/softa/vlc-1.1.12-git/plugins/libavcodec_plugin.dll
#1 0x00000009 in ?? ()
#2 0x77376c4c in ntdll!RtlEqualLuid ()
from /cygdrive/c/Windows/system32/ntdll.dll
Backtrace stopped: previous frame inner to this frame (corrupt stack?)

great - that's good news - hopefully easier to fix :)

thanks!

Hi VLC_help, et al

i see there is a beta of 1.20 out

http://free-codecs.com/download/VideoLAN.htm

i wondered if by chance the intended fix for the libavcodec crash issue (that i started this thread about) was able to be included?

thx much!

Don't download from that site. Use http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/?C=M;O=D instead. (branches are VLC 1.2.0)

thx VLC, i'll use your d/l site

do you happen to know if the libavcodec issue i reported was addressed in this build? if not, i'll probably wait until it is before switch to a less stable beta

thx much!

ok, thanks much VLC - i thought maybe they had a list of what bug fix numbers were included in each build, but didn't know where to look for that

guess maybe a later version? (hopefully)

just fyi - tested the new version (2.0.0-rc1 twoflower) and it still crashes with the libavcodec glitch

i presume there is no need to resubmit the bug report? (in case it has been possibly closed or overlooked)

Ticket is still open. And even if there is a ticket, there is no guarantee for fix. Opening multiple tickets from same issue doesn't help at all.

OK thx vlc - i remember that when you first posted the bug from one of the files i linked, and one of the devs couldn't get the file to open - hopefully the right people saw the bug :)
