Window size/position (Win 7)

Postby aybiss » 27 Apr 2011 07:28

I'm not sure about other platforms but on Win 7 VLC, like almost all other media players, sets a 1:1 zoom on playing any new file. I can't seem to find any setting to prevent this, but that's kind of beside the point... :)

I don't know if this is a video industry standard thing or what, but a recent survey showed that 100% of people I know move windows around on their desktop on purpose. A further 100% of those respondants said that when they resize a window, they are also doing that 'on purpose'. The most commonly given reason was that they 'wanted to see another window', closely followed by 'wanting to see [a part of] the desktop'.

This correlation between people who move and resize windows and those who do it with the intent of having windows be in a place and a size simply cannot be ignored! :!:

So why does every media player in the world think it can jump around my desktop doing what it likes? :D

Seriously though, it would be great if VLC could 'Maintain window size/position between files [tick]', and quite importantly (especially if it already exists) this option should be enabled by default. If this was done, I'd imagine it would probably also greatly mitigate the 'VLC has disappeared into the system tray' problem.

Deactivate auto-resize in preferences...

Thankyou for the tip.

Having just woken up the wife AGAIN because the volume control moved itself off the bottom of the screen, I would maintain this is a bug and that this setting should be enabled by defualt.

Having said that it will turn out to be like all the other settings and wont actually save between runs of the program.
