Shorcuts to files

Postby Quimbly » 07 Mar 2011 19:42

Hey guys,
I would love it if VLC player would recognize Windows shortcut files to Mp3 files.

For example, if Windows Media Player is your default player and you double-click a shortcut to Mp3, the player resolves the shortcut and plays the song. Try doing this with VLC and you'll notice that it treats the shortcut file as a media file and can't do anything with it.

Am I doing something wrong? I thought this would be a pretty important thing to do. I don't know about the rest of you, but I use shortcuts to organize my Mp3s into multiple folders/categories without having to duplicate the file.

Anyway, suggestions are welcome, but I think this would be a great feature to have in VLC.

Cheers!

My mistake!

Double-clicking on the shortcut in an Explorer window (with VLC as the default player) plays the song. However, if you drag a shortcut file to the playlist window, it won't resolve the shortcut. There's the problem.

I notice that right-clicking a Shortcut to an Mp3 file and choose Play with VLC media player resolves shortcuts, but it only works one file at a time. In other words, if I highlight a group/list of shortcuts to Mp3s, right-click and add to the VLC playlist, only the first item in the list is added to the playlist. Of course, it would better if all of the files were added to the playlist.
