A Hotkey to Clone Video

Postby CloudStalker » 27 Jan 2007 21:51

I use VLC to watch videos on both my computer and extended desktop, and I would like to know if there could be a hotkey that will clone the video instead of having to set it in the preferences menu?

Additionally, the clone could be sent to “DISPLAY2” and set to fullscreen automatically instead of having to drag the video window over to the extended desktop and then resize it. The same hotkey could be used to cycle between tuning on and off the cloned video.

Please consider this. Thanks.

Another idea I have for this is that you could set the Crop and Aspect ratio for the second display, in the preferences menu, for those instances in which you have a fullscreen monitor and a widescreen TV. All of this will make the process of watching videos on a computer and television that much easier. Does anyone agree?

Since there is now a “Video control feature request” in the “Skins” topic, can one of the moderators please move this thread there? Sorry for bumping this again, and thanks.

I don't think it is possible to merge topics. Anyway, the thread in the skins forum is about the Video _control_ in skins, not about the video output in general.

I have yet another idea for the “clone” hotkey. Even though I haven’t received any other responses to this, I figure that it’s still worth considering, so hear me out.

When the user wants to watch a video on two monitors at once then he/she can press the hotkey and it will do exactly what I described above, the only problem that I can think of is the “Overlay video output”.

So is it possible to change this during playback? For instance: Pressing “C” to clone video will also automatically disable “Overlay video output” (for video cards that do not support it on multiple monitors). When the user wants to watch a video on either their computer or TV (not both at the same time), then closing one video window (leaving only one still running) will turn the overlays back on for the remaining video window.

I don’t know if it is possible for VLC to do all of this yet, and if you guys think that I’m pushing for a feature that probably won’t be added, please tell me. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I agree that having a shortcut key to clone the outputs is a good idea. Although at the moment I am still having trouble working out how to set up video clones.

(I know this topic is fairly old but I definitly agree witht he shortcut idea)
