DXVA for Intel GMA 4500MHD

Postby skier » 12 Oct 2010 08:56

Dear VLC team,

Im sure you will receive a 1.000.000 thanks from VLC users around the world if you fix the H.264 DXVA for Intel GMA 4500MHD. (Especially to work with HD IPTV.) As the GMA 4500 is the most common GPU now.

I think you have just two steps from being # 1 player in the world: DXVA and ability to play Blue Ray.

Thank you,
Stanislav

Please give the most details you can if it doesn't work:
- screenshots
- full debug log: tools menu -> message, set verbosity to 2 (debug), and keep this window open before starting the video

Windows trunk nightly builds have the patch, please use them and report success or failures, with the exact model of your card

VLC 1.2.0-git-20101018-0002 Twoflower worked perfectly with my Dell Inspiron (core i3 based) Intel HD Graphics with GPU acceleration enabled. Thank you and thanks to the authors of VLC.

This worked very well on my Acer Aspire 1810T netbook.
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor SU7300
- Intel GMA 4500MHD

Went from not being able to play 1080p to using 20% or less cpu.

Perfect! thanks.

Does this feature work on Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 with Intel GMA HD? I have Acer TimelineX 1830T with Core i3 processor.

well... I have installed the i965-va-driver and the vainfo shows me:

libva: libva version 0.31.1
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva: Trying to open /usr/lib/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva: va_openDriver() returns 0
vainfo: VA API version: 0.31
vainfo: Driver version: i965 Driver 0.1
vainfo: Supported profile and entrypoints
VAProfileMPEG2Simple : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileMPEG2Main : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileH264Baseline : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileH264Main : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileH264High : VAEntrypointVLD

But when I started VLC with checked GPU acceleration option - I didn't notice any acceleration in 1080p video...

Re: DXVA for Intel GMA 4500MHD

Well, I have noticed one thing. When I enable GPU decoding - video plays extremely slow. When I disable GPU decoding video plays well, and I guess using only the CPU. With GPU decoding even 720p plays toooooo slow and hanging VLC player.

Why GPU playback more slower than CPU? Or I did something wrong?

GPU playback can be slower than CPU when the GPU bandwidth is too small.

this is strange, as new GMA HD in Core i3 processors is located directly on the CPU (if I'm not mistaken)

This isn't exact, but is quite true.
I have to say, I don't know.

Hi
I'm using:
1.2.0-git-2011-0129-002 Twoflower on a windows 7 premium (64bit?) on an Acer A0752. (SU2300, GMA 4500HD)

I still get ~20% dropped frames on an x264 mkv that has a peak bit rate of ~15mbit/sec. This video file plays fine in MPC-HC.
It seems a bit better when I change the output to use "directx video output" instead of default. I think there was also an option for x264 "baseline?".

The other test video I tried "bourne supremacy trailer" seems to play ok. Sometimes it has ~20 dropped frames.

What settings should I be using for this and what kind of performance is expected?

-G-

Activate GPU decoding in preferences.

under preferences | input & codec , I have use "GPU accel" enabled.

the "video quality post processing level" changed to 0 (but doesn't seem to save)
skip h.264 in loop deblock set to all.
x264 profile and level selection set to baseline 0 (performance was worse at other values of the drop-down box).

I just noticed that VLC's utilization of processor is <50% (dual core system), so perhaps this has to do with buffering the stream over wifi, so I'll try again wired. (although MPCHC plays fine over wifi, perhaps different buffering settings).

what's a recommeded setting for the "profile and level selection"?

"profile and level selection"?
If you mean x264 options, they are for encoding only.

sorry for the delayed update.
Playback works fine. over wired network, performance is the same as using MPC-HC.
