Buffer management

Postby vlc_rlk » 22 Sep 2009 05:47

Hi. Does anyone know if VLC has a buffer management or at least some statistics somewhere in its code?

Thanks

I don't know, set the buffer to say, 4000 ms, and you will be covered. The default 300ms is just too damn small, especially for vista, small wonder why shutters happen. To set the buffer, go to Preferences --> Advanced --> Input/Output --> Acces Modules. Go to AudioCD, DVD without menu, DVD with menu, VCD, file and any other forms you may be using, and set it to that. You don;t need to worry about buffers anymore.

PS: Don't worry about pausing, 1.0.0 has instant pause.

No, but the "please make the 4.000ms cache default on all access modules" is such. The 300ms is just too smal, both in Linux, but most importantly Windows. If svchost starts making a random read/write from the hard disc for long enough, the 300ms is easily emptied and you have choppy video

Hi VLC_help,

Yes, this is a feature request and if it already inside the source code of VLC could you tell where exactly it is? What module should I look for and specifically what source code file?
Does this VLC have kind off application buffer somewhere in its source code?

Thanks

There should be buffer messages shown on message log. Or do I misunderstand your question?

Well let me try to put it this way, I would like to know if there is a function or class in the source code of VLC that deals with buffer statistics?

By the way where can I get this message log?

Thanks in advance
