/!\ My ideas for subtitles improvements /!\

Postby okok123 » 08 Mar 2009 07:45

There are my ideas regarding subtitles :

1) Put Vector subtitles (Beacuse with small def video, it can be awful and non readable.

2) Creat the following shorcuts for the subtitles controles :
- Moving : to move subtiles up/donw, left/right, a shortcut like : Ctrl+W+Up/Down/Left/right arrow
- Scaling : to have the size you want, a shortcut like : Ctrl+X+Up to enlarge, and Ctrl+X+Down to reduce the size

So this is the perfect solution i think, and easy to do. Many people would like this as soon as possible

PS: VLC rocks!

I have a other idea, in a "ajustement and effects" window, you can add a Tab "subtitle" beside audio, video, and synchronisation ones with those parameters movable by the mouse.

?

You make a forum to allow people give their advises.

And when a perfect one is in front of you, you do not say "ehh it is very good, i an gonna propose that to the developpers" no, it seems you don't care ...?

my friends and me are waiting for exacly this improvement, don't pretend it is not very interesting.

1) Put Vector subtitles (Beacuse with small def video, it can be awful and non readable.
Currently subtitles are rendered as a part of the video canvas, the size of which is dependent on the video's resolution (hence low resolution videos have lower quality text). To have subtitle quality dependant on the screen/window resolution vout (video out module) rework would need to be done - not an easy task.
Yes interesting hotkey suggestions. AFAIK those could be added, however would depend on how useful they would be.

Cheers, Arite.

Do we have callbacks to do so in the freetype module?

No doesn't look like it (is that a rhetorical question :)?). TBH not sure, however currently in freetype adjusting the width/height independantly can't really be done from what I can see (can force subtitle positions though).

Ok, that is what I thought... We need callbacks for the freetype module to react to the hotkeys changes...

I have a other great idea, but less important that those before.

with a right click on the video > video > subtitle track > "change the font..." ( click on that bring to the user a window to select a font )

We are platform independent. And one thing that differs a lot between platforms is font selection. So you may take a guess how low on the priority-list such a thing is. Sorry :(

i have a other idea :

when we have 3 .. 4 ...5 subtitles to test for one movie, we test track 1, track 2 ... and when we have the good one, it is difficult to find it.

So my idea is taht in the menu selection of subtiles, instead on "track 1"..."track 2", the nam of the subtitles file would be better.

with all those ideas, vlc will be perfect for divx movie playing.
