subtitles starting offset correction

Postby skjdflsdf » 02 Nov 2007 02:52

I have some movie files. I have some subtitle files (.SRT), but apparently the subtitles aren't in sync with the movie files. I'm requesting the ability to specify the "number of seconds" that the subtitles are off by times like: -55.5, -12.0, -3.5, 0, 6.0, 14.5, would all be examples of times that one could enter.

It just easier to fix subtitles with proper tool =) Ctrl + h and Ctrl + j are enough because subtitles don't usually have that big sync off (like 55 seconds).

This feature would be extremely useful for me. I am looking for French subtitles and most of the time most films in the UK do not have them (despite having subtitles for Bolivian, Mongolian, Klingon, Qwlmian, etc). So I have to search the web for subtitles and download SRT files.

Then what happens is that the subtitles I have are completely out of sync with the film I have... I do not know of any easy way to correct this. I do not know of a tool that will edit the SRT file for me and correct the time entries. I considered writing a script or a program to do it... but that is a fair amount of hassle for me.

If VLC had an option to just enter an initial offset, it would solve this problem neatly, and save me a lot of hassle searching for other subtitle files that match the film.

The offset varies and is anywhere from 10 seconds to a couple of minutes difference btw.

The tool called "srttool" from the old "subtitleripper" package can shift timestamps across an SRT file.
