i Have been pointed in this direction for some help this seems like the most relvenat feed. I am currently running VLC player 0.9.6 and have got the global keys working when it is not selected but i am trying to get it to do the following. I have mulitple instances running at once on a multiple screen PC. I want to cue the videos up and then have some sort of play all function so they all play with a single button press. I have tried global hot keys but it only seems to work on the first instance. Hope someone can help with this.

Thanks in advance.

Do you plan to fusion your module with the normal hotkeys or not?

Not as far as i am aware i just want a system where i can play and pause all instances open at the same time Simultaneously. it so all the videos are in sync or close to it, As you can imagine if i go to so do this manually by the time i hit the 6th window it is out by a long way.

Thanks Again for your help

Is it already possible to specify 2 or more hotkeys for the same action (i havn't tried 1.0 yet)? Otherwise i don't think it would be wise to fuse them.

Well, I think that this is almost trivial to do (set 2 hotkeys for one action)

any pointers on how you would handle that would really help me.
i would prefer if it were possible to specify an arbitrary amount of hotkeys for every action, and additionally set a flag if it should be global or not.
but this means the core and some other modules (gui-preferences) have to be changed.

I don't think we can set a number arbitrary of keys per action, but doubling it is quite easy in the core.

some more questions:
1) should the 2nd hotkey always be global or a flag added to let user choose (flag means again the gui needs changes)?
2) should the 2nd hotkey exist even in OS where no global hotkeys are available?

1) a flag, I would say. GUI can be updated.
2) well, I would say that we do a second set of keys, not set. And on OS that can have global hotkeys, define some.

I Replaced the libqt4_plugin.dll from my installation of VLC 0.9.6 and it works well. (It now shows version 0.9.3-git Grishenko)

For those that claim it does not work globally... I am running Vista Ultimate and even when VLC is not the focus app, the global hotkeys are read correctly.

ssbssa... Thanks again for your continued work on this.

I'm new to VLC player and was trying to figure out how to use my old microsoft multimedia keyboard buttons to work with this program.
I found this forum, downloaded the plugin in for this.
First off, I don't really understand this guys instructions. He says

"to start vlc with Global Hotkeys enabled call 'vlc --extraintf=globalhotkeys' (with this way it's possible to control which vlc-instance has them enabled).
the automatic startup is enabled by adding globalhotkeys to "Preferences/Interface/Main Interfaces/Extra interface modules" (in this case only the first instance has them working)."

I have no idea what that means, could someone enlighten me?
Also my keyboard as a media button that will open the windows default music player but vlc doesn't seem to support this key and was wondering if there was a way to get this to work and open vlc player when I press this button?
Thanks
*edit*
I was able to get the to get stop, next, back to work, but not without having to select the actual window first. Not really sure how to address this.
The play/pause doesn't work as it should. It plays but it won't pause it.
What is 0001-Global-Hotkeys-for-windows.patch that came in the plugin?

Ok, here is hoping. Goddamned winamp used to be king but they removed the media library option which just did it for me.

A suggestion from me is to add default functionality to the media button so it can be opened from your windows program default player.

Peter,

I had trouble with that too, I had to enter the globalhotkeys string several times before it stuck. Also try the newest version of VLC if you haven't already.

Here's what I did to get the Global Hotkeys working with Vista Business (64-bit):

Preferences -> Hotkeys
Set up Global Hotkeys by double clicking on the key area you want to change under the Global column. Press the key you'd like to use when the "Press new keys for..." window pops up. After pressing the key, the window should go away and the key you pressed should show up between the "Clear" and "Set" buttons below. Press "Set" to set the global hotkey. After setting up all of the global hotkeys you'd like to use, press "Save". The options should have been saved and you can verify by going back into Preferences to check.

At this point, the global hotkeys still didn't work for me even if I had VLC in focus. I had to close the instance of VLC I had running and start it again by right-clicking the VLC icon and choosing "Run as administrator". After doing this, the global hotkeys worked properly with VLC, just like they used to work for me with Winamp.

Hi everyone,
this plugin sounds perfect for getting global hot key support, but the site hosting the file is down. Does anyone have a copy of the plugin made by ssbssa?
Specifically I was looking for the .8.6* series of the plugin for windows
Thanks
