Time for Blu-Ray support guys...

Now that Acer launched the 2nd generation below-1000$ laptops I think it's time forthe VLC dev's to start working on Blu-Ray support. Blu-ray can no longer be seen as a new unique feature now that you can buy decent laptops with a Blu-Ray player for less then 800$. I currently own a Full-HD 16:9 laptop and beleave me when I say that normal DVD's look pretty crappy from up close.

The laptop came with a Blu-Ray disks that shows the difference between the quality in the latest James Bond ( dvd vs BR ) and the quality difference is freakin huge.

I hope that the dev's are already working on Blu-Ray support because one year from now laptops with Blu-Ray will show up on ebay for less then 500$.

When i open m2ts files i get this:

You use VLC 0.9.6? At least my Win32 build can decode WVC1 with libavcodec. Tested with Test_1440x576_WVC1_6Mbps.wmv

The libavcodec isn't working for me. Is there somewhere in particular I should install it?

Also, it seems to me this whole conversation is an indication that VLC should have blu-ray support standard. My aching head will thank you.

VLC doesn't support Blu-ray. And unless miracles happen, it never will. But VLC can play MPEG Transport Stream files. Which OS and VLC version you run?

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit with VLC 0.9.6.

I keep getting "VLC can't recognize the input's format: The format of 'C:\Users\Derek\Videos\T2\BDMV\STREAM\00024.m2ts' cannot be detected. Have a look the log for details" and "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "WVC1". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this" even though I installed libavcodec.dll into my VLC folder.

Reset preferences and cache. And try 0.9.7 builds.

I know for a fact that it is possible to make backups of blu-ray films, and also to remove all DRM / copy protection from that back-up. However, VLC still does not play m2ts files from a blu-ray film.

I'm referring to the Mac OSX version.

Any ideas?

Just installed the latest nightly build 1.0.0 and VLC does not play back a m2ts file from a blu-ray film. However, it does play the audio perfectly, just not video!

I do, however, get this error:

No suitable decoder module

Any ideas how to get this to work?

I got the latest Intel version from http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/mac ... l/?C=M;O=D, the PowerPC version did run, but had the same results as the Intel version.

I have only come across a few movies that actually work and are in english. I was thinking of starting a list of movies that work and others that don't. Does anyone know of such a list? For the ones that do work, I am also succesfully able to multicast them.

VLC version? VLC messages?
Did you try vlc devlopment builds?

I'm using version 9.6 and for some movies I get the error "cannot open codec (windows media video VC1). Others open and then the program crashes. It opens up the main window and also one called (hardware YUV directx output).

I have not tried the development builds yet.

If you see multiple video windows, the .(m2)ts file has multiple video tracks. VLC tries to show them all by default. And you can change audio track during playback via Audio menu item.

I've just tried the latest nightly and I don't get any errors, I just don't get anything at all. Seems to be processing it fine, I can see it processing four streams, etc, but just no video output. Any ideas?

Have cleared prefs, cache, etc, doesn't seem to be erroring, just not displaying video either

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:

1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
2. Set Verbosity to 2
3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [​code]and[​/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)

Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.
