Default Aspect Ratio in FullScreen

Postby ETMegabyte » 22 May 2008 05:53

Hello,

I use VLC on a few different computers. One of them is connected to my HDTV through the VGA port. The TV itself is a 16:9 widescreen. It's used pretty much exclusively as a sort-of Media Center PC. Because of what it is, videos are almost always run full screen.

One thing that I would like to see is the ability to have VLC automatically switch the aspect ratio to 16:9 when I go into full screen mode. Windowed mode is fine staying at the default aspect ratio, but when I go full screen, I'd like for the video, by default, to take up the whole screen.

The same is true for my PC as well. My PC has a 16:10 screen, and when I go full screen, I'd like to see the video take up the full screen there as well. The mechanics are already in the program for this, as I can manually change the aspect ratio when the video starts. I'd just like to see a preference to change it as soon as I go into full screen mode.

I could not find it. Actually, I like to think I'm pretty technical, but I can't make heads or tails of a lot of what's in the preferences screens.

I will look again.

I looked again, and the only thing I could find was under Video->Video Cropping. I changed it to 16:10, and it did force the 16:10 as the default aspect ratio.

The only thing about that is that it changes it in windowed mode as well. I was more thinking to keep the default (whatever the video is) in windowed mode, and force a specific aspect ratio in fullscreen mode.

Is this possible?

Preferences -> video -> advanced will let you choose the options you want/need.

I'm not seeing it. That's ok, though. The Video Cropping setting is good enough for now.
