Feature that remembers last play position for each video/dvd

Postby bsw11 » 21 Jul 2007 07:33

How about adding a feature that remembers the last position of each video so when you go back to that video in the playlist, it restarts from this position.

While your at it, make the playlist more automatically persistent - like winamp does - but make different instances be able to have their own persistent playlists.

VLC version: OVER 9000!!!
Operating System: It's...blue screen
Location: Heaven? No no. What's that other place that starts with an "H"? Oh yes: Home. ^_^

There was a similar request but maybe not the same as saving per file/DVD. I'd say that sounds pretty good but it's probably not so easy to implement.

I've never used Winamp (VideoLAN has been doing a pretty good job with keeping me with their media player 8)); could you explain in more detail what "automatically persistent" is? :)

What I mean by automatically persistent is that whatever you add to a playlist gets saved as an file so when you open up VLC again, your playlist is still there.
Since I use multiple instances of VLC, this gets more complicated - but if you allow a user to name the file one time per instance, then it can be saved and maintained.
When you open a new instance, and there are multiple playlists available, then can be listed in the top level tree for the user to select.

As for keeping track of last play position, that can be done right in the maintained playlist. To keep track of last play date and # of plays would take an XML file in each directory or a central DB file for all - that should be an option.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. :) Well, although it would be nice to have something like this, I don't know if VLC can recognize how many instances are open, so it might be difficult to restore the items when you restart in the order according to the instances opened previously.
