Position of subtitles outside the video area

Postby ms-trex » 10 Apr 2007 10:48

Is this possible to do that in VLC? I read a topic posted 4 years ago about this and I think this is still not implemented. So I want to ask, why? Is this so hard to make this simple feature? I think this is one of the most important thing while watching a movies in the movie player. Even a simple allplayer for w***** can do that. But a VLC is still the best movie player ever.

Yes. It is difficult because it means reworking a lot VLC to do so. And this is not easy for streaming too.

There are chances, but not so soon, I am afraid...

Hello'

isn't it possible to enlarge(/add black borders to) the video according to the desktop-resolution (f.e. 4:3) with a small plugin.. then ther would be a black array at bottom of the video to show the subtitles.

I looked through the plugins and the n8build. but i could only find cropping(?)

I really like vlc :)

I'm begging for this feature already since 2004. Please see this thread.

Another interesting discussion is here.

The conclusion is, that subtitles are rendered into video before applying filters. So eve if you added a letterboxing filter, it wouldn't help.
