File associations in VLC

I just updated AVG Internet security on my PC. I saw that the update files (which I could see in the AVG update folder) had VLC icons before them!
I have been having problems with updating AVG's program updates.
I would like to know, how come VLC is associated with AVG's program update files?
Is there a way for me to know what association my AVG files should have?
