Is it OK to solicite help for payment through the forum?

Postby jakeforpres » 13 May 2011 23:27

Hello,

I am hoping this is the correct location to ask this question. I am wondering if there is a topic area where I could request the help of someone familiar with this software to create a streaming setup for me for payment. I believe it is a pretty simple contracting job for someone who is versed in using VideoLAN. I am not including the details just yet as I want to make sure this sort of question is OK? I look forward to a response. Thank you.

Jean-Baptiste,

Thank you for the reply. I am looking to contract someone for the job below. I do not believe it is complicated but I want to make sure that I am doing this in the best manner as I believe that using VLC there are a number of options. Prior to starting we can agree on a price and payment, in addition I would like to at least make sure that the person who is chosen is qualified. I have been working with this software for a few weeks and I believe that it is the correct and most stable solution for the job needed.

I will be happy to post once I have contracted the job as to not waste any time of others who may be interested. Please contact me here and I will send you any information needed to create an agreement. Our reason for considering hiring someone is that although with time I believe I could find a solution to this VLC and understanding streaming has a learning curve which I am finding requires more than the time I have.

Here is an outline of the project:

Ultimately, we have a security camera that outputs a MJPEG format. The camera has some build in Linux software with a simple GUI to control it. The image output is a panoramic widescreen image with a pretty high quality that we would like to maintain. I have been able to successfully stream this signal to a CentOS 5 server running VLC and display the image in JQuery. The problem, this setup pulls too heavy on the bandwidth from the source and this is not OK. The source where the camera is located is residential but they have their own IP. The solution we are attempting which has failed so far is to use an internal IP on the camera to stream to a Windows server. We have attempted to transcode the file to h264 which from my understanding is MPEG4 format. This signal appears to be using much less bandwidth. We need to send this or receive this signal on the CentOS server we will use to stream this to others. The server has CentOS installed, VLC and FFMPEG. Lastly, it would be useful to understand how to embed this into a website. I will need the coding for the Windows server as I do not have direct access to it but the CentOS server I can grant SSH access to.

The end result should be a high quality / resolution panoramic image that can be embedded in a webpage. If you have read this thank you for reading. If you are interested please let me know. I will be contacting people most likely on Monday. If you need more information or I was not specific enough please let me know where I can clarify and I will be happy to reply. Thank you again for you time.
