Adobe or something cheaper?

Postby fionaer » 18 Jan 2011 09:50

Hi all. I'm new here and relatively new to web design and am now looking to take my skills onto a new level.

As a budding new web designer, I'm now considering which software is best. My assumption was that I'd have to go with Adobe. However, after reading a few comments on here, there are some who consider it to be too expensive given that there are other options out there which could also be better.

I was hoping for advice from experienced people who could let me know if you think Adobe is the way to go or recommend any other software.

Thank you and grateful in advance

Web design, eh? CloudStalker is not too familiar with that but he can recommend some alternatives that might help fionaer out.

Try:

Paint.NET (a free alternative to Adobe PhotoShop)
It's pretty simple to use but CloudStalker recommends downloading some plug-ins from their plug-ins page to gain the most use out of this program.

Inkscape (a free alternative to Adobe Illustrator)
Instead of using pixels to display the image, this program uses vectors which are much smoother and, from what CloudStalker has read, are ideal for web designs, in many cases.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fionaer, This is where I began <http://www.kompozer.net/%20-> <http://www.gimp.org/%20-> <http://www.openoffice.org/sitemap.html> < http://www.blender.org/%20- >

Kompozer is a web authoring package, the Open office suite has some web authoring utilities, The Gimp is a very powerful graphics / photo editing program, to me it's every bit as powerful as photo shop just different, is photo shop better?...maybe, but is it $700.00 better? only you can make that call. (after installation go back to the Gimp site for plug ins) Blender for morphing & animations. Google "The site wizard" he has a lot of good information and tutorials on almost all these applications as does you tube. and it's all FREE! :lol: Perseverance furthers....
Cheers and good authoring!

(ps. sorry if the URL's look a little "hinkey" I'm a newbie here myself, haven’t quite figured out how to drive the advanced editor yet, still need the training wheeels I guess..) :roll:
