Could my son have set up the audio to mute the dialog on a movie but not the sound track? If so how do I fix it? Since he knows I'm mentally ill should I assume he is trying to harm me? Nip

No, this is usually that some channels are not decoded correctly.
Reset preferences.

Sounds like a channel problem. Perhaps the set-up cables are partially pulled out as well? Sometimes that can screw up the audio. I know there's some sort of trick with music where you can pull out the vocal track, but that involved the stereo input.
