iOS VLC player question

#1. Hopefully everything settles down and VLC continues to be available for iOS
I installed the app today to find it wanting video content in my itunes account, I've yet to get some.
But the reason I went looking for VLC is streaming media, specifically, it would be nice to have a standalone streaming media player in the iOS implementation of VLC. Is this in the roadmap? I've yet to find another standalone player for streaming sources. Any suggestions?
