dvd ripping

Postby biferi » 28 Jan 2010 19:43

I am useing Next Free DVD Ripper to try to rip a DVD.
VLC did not work and Next is working great for it.

But one thing the Audio and Video are not matching up.
There is a check box for Audio Video Sync so I put a Check mark in it.
But then it has a boix next to it that says
0:000 Seconds what sould I type in here

I am not from the Videolan group, but I am pretty sure VLC doesn't have any DVD ripping features whatsoever. Sure, you can record the movie while playing, but this is not ripping.

I have never used the Next DVD ripper you mention, but you might consider writing in Next's forum to get better help than here.

Anyway, I recommend to try and use the "DVD Fab HD decrypter" (cracks all copy protections) and "DVD decrypter" (doesn't crack modern copy protections, but it's good to have it as secondary tool) as alternatives. Both of them are free (just google them).
Then, you can either burn the VOB files as DVD-Video, or convert them to Divx with some tool like AutoGK.

Hope I helped, kurkosdr.

Put the amount that what you want to shift the audio by relative to the video. So if the audio is 1 second slow, set it to +1.000s. This is only for playback however, as kurkosdr said there are better tools for accurate DVD ripping.

I found something that may work for me it is called Format Factory.
It converts any File to any other Format.

I have one thing I need help with?

Wen I pick my DVD and tell it to convert it to AVi format I then can go into Setting and check if everything is set right.

It says Video Format AVi this is right
Then it says Video CODEC MPEG-4 XviD one thing AVI is not MPEG-4 so what the hell is this LOL
And I had XviD and I un instaled it a long time agao.

Please help

English, man...

Anyway, DVD Fab HD decrypter is your de facto choice, as it's one of the few rippers that quickly evolves to support the new copy protections that new movies come with. And it's free (click on the link above).

If I use the codec H262 I think it's called I will use a Bit Rate of 2200 kbps

And it will give me the same ideo quality as the original DVD.

But what is better MPG-2 or H262

H.264 is better for lower bitrates.

thanks for all the help but I need some help still if anyone can give it?

VOB and MPEG 2 both are good for Duplexing streams.
Like video audio sound soround and so on.

So if I am taking a DVD with soround sound and I ripp it to H262 codec I will not be able to take the soround sound?????
Because VOB and MPEG 2 are the two that can take multi streams?

Am I right or is this not what they meen but VOB and MPEG 2 can have Duplex treams?????????????????????????????????

Both .avi and .mkv can handle multi streams just as good as VOB.

Hence, you do NOT have to convert the sound from surround to stereo when ripping to H.264. You can preserve the sound intact, with no change at all. You do not have to change anything in the sound.

Just extract it from the VOB file, and put it inside the avi/mkv you created when you did the rip. You can do this by using a tool like AviMux or MKVtoolnix.

Hint #1: Go to doom9.org forum to ask your ripping related questions. Doom9.org specializes on ripping and format conversions, so chances are you are going to get better answers there

Hint #2: Improve your English. Seriously. I can't understand what you are saying,

There is no such thing as "Surround Sound 5.1 stereo".

No such thing exists. It's either "Surround Sound 5.1", or "Stereo". Make your choice.

Go for Surround 5.1. Problem solved.

There is also Handbrake for ripping DVDs. It actually makes use of VLC for some of its work. It focuses on MP4 as the ripped format.

Handbrake is open source: http://www.handbrake.fr
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

I think I have it down now but I wanted to check.

If I am useing the AVi codec H262 I think it's called and I want to ripp a DVD but have the same video quality I can use a Video Bit Rate of 8000 kbps if the DVD has no FX and no fast movment.

But if it has Fast movement and a lot of FX I sould set it to 22000 kbps???
