Aahhh! Coffee! (Aspect Ratio)

Hi guys! This isn't about trouble shooting. So I brought my question here. I did a search, all be it a short one.
I run Win XP SP3 with a EVGA 7600 GT vid card. This is attached to a 42 inch LCD TV that has 2 AVG inputs.
So 16:9 aspect ratio is what I would like to be used all the time.
So, is there any way to set up a preference that would use this ratio all the time. No matter what the ratio is in the recording.
The only way around this would be to use Super (C) and recode all of my videos.

I might be a thread necro... but I'm new here and have some aspect ratio problems with the VLC 2.0.x for windows. I set 16:9 in the Preferences (Source aspect ratio). But if you open or run VLC with a 4:3 video, it does make or fill the screens (full screen) with the video image but if multiple files or clips with 4:3 aspect ratio, the image reverts to it's original (4:3). Even if you manually change it back to 16:9 would still stay at 4:3. I have no problems with my VLC 1.1.10 so I reverted back to the old one. Can anyone check this? Thanx and God bless to all.

I have noticed under right click on screen / video / always fit window. It helps with making the video actually fill the window.
