What is the suggested configuration to record my webcam streaming output to a file that will be readable by Windows Media Player (as well as Vlan) in a 512kbps quality :?:
Same question for full screen 2Mbps sequence :?:

When will next release be issued ? Will the stall problems under XP be solved :?:

OS of the PC with the Webcam?

I would use DIV3 at 512K, in ASF encapsulation, to a .ASF file. If the original PC is Windows, you could also try WMV3 as the video codec, I believe, though you can only do this from a command line (not from the wxwindows user interface). To use WMV3 you need a current Windows Media Player (9 or 10) installed on the PC that is doing the original capture.

Depending on what you need/want, you might experiment with the --sout-transcode-fps and/or dshow input size parameters. For home streaming to the 'Net, I run a good camera at 640x480 input frame size, but cut the output frame rate to 5 fps.
