Where to get up to date VLC for Ubuntu?

As the title says, the one in the repository has been outdated for ages. I'm not a fanatic of compiling software so I'd appreciate a link to a working 0.9.9 version.

Or VLC 1.0.0 RC1 is good too because I want to try out the linux global hotkeys

Well, 1.0.0 RC1, there are only packages for 9.4
