source code location

Hi:
I down loaded VLC (h) on that page there was a section on getting a source code. When I clicked it, I was fwd to your developer site. At that point I was really lost.
I probably am considered less than a novice, but will you gave me the reason for this code and the actual webste page.

You can download using GIT or SVN tools or from http:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/source/

As lallous said you can use e.g. Git to get the latest revision, or download a recent nightly tarball.

You can find the source code for the currect stable release (0.8.6h at the time of writing) of VLC here:
http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.6h/

There is also a "latest" directory however that is still on 0.8.6e.
