Problem with video speed

Whatever program i use to play avi videos, (nero,bsplayer), I can't play the video at a speed greater than 2x, When i move the slider to 4x,8x, etc, it keeps coming back to 2x which seems to be the maximum speed the players can play. This didn't happen until 2 weeks ago, but i had to reinstall a fresh copy of windows and since then i have this problem. Does anyone have any idea of what I could do to fix this problem? I have installed K-lite codecs, i don't know if this pack has anything to do with my problem...
