I don't know of a resetter (Although there are methods around if you search a bit), but I also have a Toshiba drive.

With VLC the counter - also the hardware counter - doesn't get touched, so you can play all DVDs (Well, Region 1 & 2 I know for certain) as often as you want. At least with my Thinkpad...

If you want to be able to play any DVD-region, you should upgrade your firmware, I've got a Toshiba player and since I upgraded my firmware I've been able to play region 1, 2 and 4, that's the ones I've tested so far. But a warning sign though:

*Warning*If you don't know how to upgrade it or is unsure of how to do it, then don't! This will permanently be in the DVD-player no matter what you do with it, so if you upgrade your firmware with the wrong files you are SCREWED! Then you'll need a new DVD-player*WARNING*

But as I've recently said, if it's done correctly it will be better than anything else you can do to play all the regions.

If you decide to do this and you think you've got the know-how, you will need to check what firmware version you're currently using, and you will need to know the exact model of your DVD-player, if you don't know this (I suppose you don't) you can use a program called DISCinfo. Download it from here:

http://hijacker.rpc1.com/discinfo/#Download

Download version 1.5.5 and start the program, it will show your current firmware version and your DVD-model, and now it's your job to find the correct firmware version (*WARNING*don't use discinfo to get the new firmware version*WARNING*) But that I can't help you with since you can't get it from the same place if you've got different firmware version and DVD-model than I had.

Oh, I almost forgot, it shows if you've got a region lock on the DVD-player or not too. So after you've upgraded you firmware version you can open DISCinfo once again and check if the lock's still there, if it is, you've done it incorrectly.

Best regards
Christian
