VideoLAN needs your help

Postby yoann » 19 Jun 2006 20:27

There are many things that we would like to improve in VLC, but that we don't, because we simply don't have enough time. That's why we are currently looking for some help.
We have identified several small projects that prospective developers could work on. Knowledge of C and/or C++ programming will certainly be useful, but you don't need to be an expert, nor a video expert. Existing VLC developers will be able to help you on these projects.
You can find the list and some instructions at http://wiki.videolan.org/Mini_Projects.
Don't hesitate to join us on IRC on the mailing-lists.
We are waiting for you!

I thought auto resizing as an option in the preferences would be nice. Always on default would be good but a button to disable it if causing problems.

The aspect ratio is what I'm talking aboot. I liked 16:10 but the default one doesn't know the black sides aren't what im looking for.

ya it's the best media player I've EVER used (real player, bs player, quick time player, windows media player 6.4 /w kazaa lite codec pack, although decent, and the junk players in dvd's)

auto aspect ratio would be an EXCELLENT feature to your already HUGE "to do" list. ;)

enjoy the work load, I'm too dumb to build it myself else I'd help.

all the best this winter VLC developers and grateful users,

Trevor :)

Howdo I post an oom bug on vlc on the forum? I dont see a "create post" or something like button anywhere...?

The last line here "killed" is the oom killing it after playing the stream ended normally but caused vlc to go use all memory.

If VideoLAN needs our support, then I think it's only fitting that we get your support.

I see several open topics (including, I must state, one in which I have a current interest) where users are asking what I see as perfectly reasonable questions; and we are NOT getting any sort of response from the people who know how VLC works.

So, I will ask the generalized question: for any topic, for any question, what do we, the users, need to do to get an answer from the people who have the answers?

There is a lack of people who have answers, or build the knowledge to have answers.
