Captions

Hello, this seemed to be the least overwhelming forum to place this question. Maybe someone could lead me to the right place.

I am a transcriptionist and caption editor. I know how to embed my captions into a video using VLC, I know how to add a subtitle file. My question is that I would like to be able to embed the caption file that I am adding because after I adjust the settings in VLC to how I like them, like adding cropping, I like how the captions look added to the cropped affect and not playing on the video image itself.

Is there a way to capture this new format that I create, like can you record it, or can you convert it, or how in the world can you do it? Or can you do it at all? I've tried everything I can think of. I am getting frustrated. Can someone lead me to an answer or to a person who can answer?? Thanks in advance!!!!!

I want to be able to send the captioned file to the client with the captions embedded, not with a caption file for them to have to add.

Looks like you need a dedicated video editor.

That sounds like a good plan. Is there any particular video editing program that anyone could recommend? I don't need anything too elaborate. Thanks in advance!

It depends on the format you are using.
The free and open source AviDemux can embed SRT and SSA subtitles:

But I'm quite sure there are many other ones, including free ones, which can do it.
