Can we jump to points back in time while watching livestreams?

Postby tirolock » 09 May 2019 16:03

I opened a Twitch live stream using the open network stream feature of VLC.
(I copied and pasted a Twitch link in the "Please enter a network URL:" textbox)

I want to know if it's possible to go back in the time of stream to view the stream from that time.

Ex: If the stream current time is 4:31:15, Can I watch what happened at 2:30:00 and still look through the rest of the stream?

Hi, yes you can on desktop, see "timeshifting". It's not possible on mobile because what is happening behind the box is recording of the live stream while you're watching the deferred version, and it could eat all your mobile space.

Correct me if i'm wrong but, in "timeshift" mode, you can only pause and unpause/resume? You can't decide where to resume the stream using the time bar?

This is correct. This is not implemented now.

How can you get "timeshift" mode working for Twitch streams? I've tried the following command line calls with no success:
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" https://www.twitch.tv/ninja
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --stream-filter timeshift https://www.twitch.tv/ninja
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --stream-filter timeshift --http-continuous https://www.twitch.tv/ninja

For non-twitch streams, I'm able to timeshift using:
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --stream-filter timeshift udp://@123.4.56.7:8899

This is using vlc3.0.6 on Windows 10

No, it does not work for twitch.
