Why a cone?

It always makes me pause and think, "okay computer, what happened to the icon this time?". It screams *something went wrong!*, and feels so out of place.
Why is a traffic pilon the logo?

It's a lot easier to spot the cone icon than it is to spot other cute designer icons that are mostly black.
