How to get rid of annoying Windows Media Player request to be default

I am tired of Windows Media Player's position as default on my windows 8.1 desktop.
If i double click the video it automatically presumes Windows Media Player is to be run.
Note: I have never used Windows Media Player yet. Should I uninstall it?

You cannot uninstall it. Rerun the VLC installer and associate VLC with most formats.
