Actually, the C used to stand for Client, a relic from an era long since gone, where VLC was the client of a Server/Client package... ...things were SO much more complicated in those days. *sigh* But anyway, now you what the C used to mean. Now VLC is an acronym that means nothing. :D Hope this clears this up for you.

As TheBigTime001 said the "Client" term isn't relevant now as both client and server elements were merged into VLC.
