[Solved] Does mp4 files actually support tags?

Hi.
Just wondering this. Many sources on the web, included wikipedia clearly states that MP4 files does support tags. Even meta data windows in VLC suggest that.
However, I've never actually seen an mp4 file that acually had any tags when open in VLC (or Mediainfo).
Is it possible, and do I need some really expensive software If I want to tag my name to an mp4 file - so that it appear in VLC metadata information box?
Thanks

DEpends what you call tags. MP4 supports metadata.

Hi. What's the difference between metadata and tags?
Can metadata be used to eg. identify the origin for a file (who is capturing, where is video captured, etc) ?

Is there any sotware (preferably free) that allows me to add metadata to mp4 video files?

Cross-platform:
Kid3

Ok, thanks Lotesdelere. Heard of MP3 tag but weren't aware that it also supported mp4 files
Is there any way to mark this as solved on forum? I cannot find a way to edit previous threads (no "Edit" button).

I dunno if this is outside of the present question but when I edit my metadata from inside of VLC and then play it in windows media...it doesn't transfer over. Its only held in the vlc player or does it directly write the metadata into the mp4. Not sure if something is just screwed up on my end.

I don't know for Windows Media Player, but tags which I added with VLC were actually written to the .mp4 file. I used VLC v. 2.2.2, and added metadata in the "General" tab of the "Media Information" page.
