Why VLC use QT as GUI ?

I am wondering why VLC use QT as GUI, why not GTK+ ?
I heard many people said QT is slower than GTK+, so they choose GTK+ as GUI.
Anybody knows the reason?

Qt is actually faster than GTK+, easier to code in and better on Windows

How about on Linux ?
Many say GTK+ is much faster than qt.

I can say that 2+2=5 and that would not make it true.
And the Windows reason is big enough.

GTK+ says it can also running on WINODWS, and GTK3 is fully operational on WINDOWS. And it can running quicker than qt4. Is that really true?
I am a new man, and just see many people working around GTK and QT. One side says its own is better.
On linux, I have seen LXDE V.S KDE, and LXDE is much faster than KDE while LXDE is GTK+, KDE is qt.

GTK3 is ugly on Windows. And razor-qt is written in Qt and is as fast as LXDE.
Well, now, could you we stop this pointless discussion?
