VLC 1.1.6

Postby biggboyy » 18 Aug 2012 21:59

I recently downloaded the VLC Media Player 1.1.6, thinking it was like Windows Media Player on my laptop with windows 7. I am a sixty something trying to learn as much on my own so as not to bother my friends all the time.I came across your web site and can see that what is being discussed is well advanced of my current skill and knowledge level but thought that someone could take the time to tell me either where to find out what all VLC can do with music or tell me where I can find that information. I want to make up playlists and burn cds and download them onto mp3 players. Video will come later. I noticed that twenty people looked at my question but had no response. WHATS UP? Would someone please give me a reply! Preferably a helpful replay?! THANKS.

P.S. So far all I have been able to do is play songs on VLC that I have downloaded, but have not been able to sync into lists or move off the player.

The latest version of VLC is 2.0.3. There are a lot of improvements/changes so I'd recommend updating. Get it from the main website here.

VLC can't burn (write) CDs. It can play CDs; however if you want to rip (copy/make MP3s out of them) you'd be better off using a CD ripping program (ideally e.g. Exact Audio Copy, but things like Window Media Player and iTunes work OK too).

VLC's Playlist view should be useful if you want to use it as a music player. Go to "View >> Playlist" to enable it, then you can drag and drop or right click to add files etc. The playlist view (list, thumbnails etc.) can be change by clicking the button to the left of the Search box.

To save the current playlist to a file go to "Media >> Save Playlist to File...".

Have a look at the VideoLAN Wiki for more information:
http://wiki.videolan.org/

There's documentation on basic use - here's the Playlist article:
http://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation: ... e/Playlist

Hope that helps - ask something in more detail if I didn't answer everything.

Cheers, Arite
