Does utube need realplayer

Postby Locorameriz » 16 Aug 2012 10:15

Probably seems like a very stupid question but for some reason I am under the impression that utube uses realplayer.
If I get rid of realplayer will I still be able to watch utube videos?

My last stupid realplayer question, then I’m done with it

Postby Locorameriz » 16 Aug 2012 12:36

I have got my VLC player working pretty well and am just about to uninstall realplayer, will the uninstall delete the utube videos I have downloaded and saved in my realplayer folder?
I have searched but there seems to be a lot of confusion about the realplayer uninstall function so any help here would be fantastic.

I do not know if that would be the case, but I'd move them to another place to make sure they stay after uninstalling. Are you sure those are actual videos or just links to the online content?

They are actual videos and have been downloading them for a couple of years so have quite a few.

I wish I could move them and this is why I want to get rid of realplayer, when I try to move them the little Windows dialog box comes up and says it is calculating the time but just sits there for hours and that’s just for 1 file.
I think realplayer is stopping them being moved.

I have had huge problems with realplayer interrupting playback when I use Windows media player, it never happens in realplayer and when I disable all realplayer start-up function in CCleaner Windows media player plays fine.
I have tried to play all my different files with the VLC player and have not had one problem, they play great with no interruption and I’ve got the video quality as good as realplayer so it’s adios to them.

I read that the files would not be affected in one place but am looking for confirmation as I love those videos, thanks.

sounds to me your system disk is quite full then. What you want to do in the first place is stop as much programs as possible, then move the files, then uninstall realplayer. You could start the move action before going to sleep and click on the Move button the next morning.

It’s funny how conversations can lead to success!
After you said about moving the files and I replied, I thought to myself that I had never tried to move the files after disabling all realplayer start-up functions because I was concentrating on the interrupted sound.

I just did a restart with the realplayer functions disabled and then I could move the files as normal but I am not sure if it was because I had disabled the functions because I noticed that all realplayer icons have been changed to the VLC icon.

Who cares, it works! I’m going to move all files to a new folder and then get rid of realplayer for ever.

Thanks so much for all your help, my girl took my dog and left with a Mexican tap dancer but as long as I can watch my music videos it’s all good.

I love this place just as much as Blender now. :D
