Just wanna play dvd

Postby pappysmurf » 02 Apr 2006 23:43

I haven't downloaded VLC yet, because I'm not sure it's what I need. All I want is to be able to play dvd movies on my pc. My system is AMD Athlon 800, Windows 98,Nvidia GeForce Asylum 5200,andHitachi GD 5000.I dont want to have to upgrade to XP.I'm comfortable with 98.And I dont want to have to buy one of the programs that micro says they recognize.Ive tried Amazing DVD Player and InterActual but they dont play.I can access the special features games, weblinks, printables and etc but not the video.Does VLC need me to get other decoders or codecs?

I have successfully copied a .VOB file from a DVD on to my hard disk and then used VLC Media Player to play it. You have to be careful to select the right Audio Track and Video Track. Full screen mode also helps, as might tweaking the aspect ratio.

I could not say if your system has the right codecs installed.

VLC does not use external codecs but its own codecs.

To read the dvd, you don't need to open the vob files but just the video_ts folder using the Open Disk dialog
