vlc 3.0.17.4 uses way more ram than gopro player + realsteady. i used Microsoft Movies & TV or Microsoft Films & TV for vr180 videos for a long time without headset but zooming in or out was not possible. i couldn't find the VR-switch on youtube (on Microsoft Movies & TV or Microsoft Films & TV it's a button called 360°) and that's why i found a solution of correcting the metadata. so the videos will played immediately in 360° on vlc and Microsoft Movies & TV or Microsoft Films & TV.
that's why i also compared vlc and gopro player, another vr-capable video player for non-headset user. gopro player + realsteady uses way less ram than vlc. only 30 % of the size vlc needs.
Microsoft Movies & TV or Microsoft Films & TV need a bit more ram than gopro player. gopro player also supports zooming.
why so? more than 1 gig of ram for a high res video in vr180?
