putting on a show

Postby simonainley » 31 May 2019 16:37

Hi, I occasionally play as a solo artist with my guitar and looper pedal in a local small club - no money is charged or made so it's not a commercial venture.

I play a set of songs 3 of which are 'scripted' accurately to 3 different videos (8 or 9 minutes long) that I have made, and 4 or 5 are more free-form; dependant on the night they could be 3 minutes long or 10 minutes long.
I have a laptop and a single projector as well as my music gear.

My dream is to be able to project the SoundSpectrum visualizer 'g-force standalone' while the freeform songs are played - beautiful visuals reacting to the sounds being made, and then switch seamlessly to one of my pre-made videos ... and then switch seamlessly back to the 'g-force standalone', and back and forth.

At the moment its a bit cumbersome switching between the 2 separate programmes - the media player (I've just discovered VLC but have used Windows media player up to now) and the visualizer.

Is there a way of using the playlist function perhaps to be able to have visualiser running all the time and then, when I want it to, easily turn on the next video (thus 'dimming' the visualiser), and then when that's over revert to the visualiser?

Hi, it would be possible, but gapless/seamless transition would be available only in 4.0 release. Also you'll need a way to signal that you want to change (either control key somehow, or duration) and it might need a bit of work to make it correctly.

Also, the visualisation in VLC are not that pretty, so you might want to either write your own visualization or write a wrapper for an existing external visualisation.
