Wrong CD Info?

Postby Steed » 23 May 2016 22:32

I just popped in a copy of Antinio Soler - Sonatas for Harpsichord by Virginia Black published by CRD Records and was greeted by a bare buttocked Valkyrie calling herself Raging Slab of the Freeburden, with tracks like Whistling Past The Graveyard, Damn it All and the ominous 'Audio CD - Track 13'.

What is the meaning of this devilment?

Windows Media Player picks up the right info (metadata?), so it may be a problem with whatever library VLC connects to. Is there any further info I should post to rectify this?

I suspect this isn't going to be a major issue, hence my posting to Coffee Corner.

Try upgrading to 2.2.4. I read that they fixed some minor issues, which might help you

Yes, this is weird. Try also a 3.0 from Nightly Build of VLC

I use VLC v 2.2.4 Weatherwax - and got the same problem with a wrong allocated album. So I'd like to come back to the original suggestion: it may be a problem with whatever library VLC connects to. Maybe there is a possibility to update the library with new metadata. Or you can change the request in a way that users can decide if the correct album was found.
Thanks for a new look on it. Peter

I've got the same problem than Steed with a recent CD. It's LP - Lost on you.
VLC show another spanish artist : Lorca.
Actually, I've tried with VLC 2.2.2 and the nightly build 3.0.0 and the problem is the same.

I had the same problem. Try the following:
Open "tools" -> "preferences".
On the bottom left set "show settings" to all.
Search for "cddb" (should be at "input/codecs" -> "access modules" -> "audio cd").
There you can select a cddb server. Pick one from the list there: http://www.freedb.org/en/applications__ ... ion.8.html.
Restart VLC.

That's not about the cddb server, but about the whole cddb signature.
